I know what you’re thinking… Hockey? That’s not something you usually see much on the Nerd List. Well this time it’s different. This club event at the Art Gallery of Alberta is covering a local comic about hockey after apocalypse (and it’s hosted by Jay from Happy Harbor Comics).
See the event link here.
Join Jay Bardyla, owner of Edmonton’s own Happy Harbor Comics, to find out what pop art, comic books, and hockey have in common. This reading club is organized in conjunction with the exhibition Gretzky is Everywhere.
Bardyla’s focus will be on “Hockeypocalypse,” a comic book series written and illustrated by Edmonton comic artist Jeff Martin. The tag line? “In post-apocalyptic Canada, guns don’t kill people—slapshots do.”
“Hockeypocalypse” is available for free from the Edmonton Public Library, can be purchased at Happy Harbor Comics, or online at http://jeffmartinart.tictail.com/product/hockeypocalypse-season-1-the-battle-of-alberta.
Don’t have time to read ahead of time? Don’t worry! We’ll have copies of the book on hand at the program to flip through and some blown-up pages for discussion.
If you’re a comic book lover, an art lover, or a hockey lover, this reading club is for you!
