The Edmonton Public Library and Edmonton Community Foundation are bringing you another important educational pop culture guest (they just brought George Takei last month!). If you’re interested in making the web a little better place than it is (or learning how it got to this point), join the EPL on Jan. 24th!
EPL will welcome Anita Sarkeesian for the first Forward Thinking Speaker Series event of 2018 on January 24, 2018 the Chateau Lacombe.
Anita Sarkeesian is a media critic and the creator of Feminist Frequency, a video webseries that explores the representations of women in pop culture narratives. Her work focuses on deconstructing the stereotypes and tropes associated with women in popular culture as well as highlighting issues surrounding the targeted harassment of women in online and gaming spaces. Anita earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies at California State University Northridge and her Master’s degree in Social and Political Thought at York University.
Tickets will go on sale for EPL cardholders starting at 10am on December 13 for $10. There will also be limited $75 VIP tickets available. All proceeds from the event will support the Stanley A. Milner Library revitalization project.
The Forward Thinking Speaker Series reflects EPL’s rich history of taking risks, trying new things out and redefining the modern library. EPL is inviting thought-leaders from a variety of industries and around a variety of topics to share their insights, ideas, experiences and viewpoints, with the goal of helping us purposefully build better organizations, neighborhoods and communities.
